Honda Team Member Honored At 2016 STEP Awards
At the 2016 STEP Ahead Awards, which took place yesterday in Washington, D.C., Honda Team Member Jan Gansheimer was recognized for her efforts to help advance the work of women in the manufacturing industry. All of the honorees at the event were recognized for their work in helping to create more awareness about the manufacturing industry as an advanced, high-tech industry in the U.S. while also promoting educational programs to strengthen training efforts in this industry.
STEP stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Production and these annual awards have been designed to recognize women in the manufacturing industry who make an active effort to provide encouragement and support to other women interested in a career in this industry. Currently, around 47 percent of the labor force is made up of women, but only 27 of the manufacturing workforce is women, a fact that the women honored in the STEP awards are attempting to change.
“I love the variety that manufacturing offers at Honda because it provides the opportunity to create, to solve problems and to work constantly to improve products for the customer,” said Gansheimer, who was recently named Assistant Vice President of Human Resources for Honda North America, Inc. “I’m honored to be recognized for supporting an industry that has significantly impacted my life and is so important to the fabric of the country.”
Gansheimer has been with Honda since 1986 when she started out as a production associate in the Marysville Auto Plant. Over the years, her dedication and skill has helped her to advance into a number of different positions including staff engineer at the East Liberty Auto Plant, manager of the North American Support and Development group in the Purchasing Division, plant manager of the Marysville Motorcycle Plant, division manager of the Purchasing Division and her current position of AVP of plant operations for Honda of America Mfg., Inc.

In today’s society, it seems that everyone is constantly connected to their smartphones. Everywhere you go, you will see people glued to their phones and texting, even if they are in the middle of another task, such as driving. The problem is that everyone is so used to constantly being connected that they all believe that they have no problem multitasking while they continue to text. Unfortunately, studies have proven that while 98% of people think they are capable of multitasking, the more confident you are in your ability to multitask the less careful you will be and you will actually end up making more mistakes.
Therefore, as part of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, Honda has released a new series of advertisements that help to bring awareness to the dangers of trying to multitask while you are texting. The videos all show individuals trying to carry on simple everyday tasks such as making pancakes, working out, and vacuuming while texting, and in each situation their focus on their phone leads to chaos with their other tasks. The point of these advertisement is to show that if even simple tasks cannot be accomplished while texting, then driving while texting is certainly not something that anyone should be attempting.

Mechanical engineer and project leader for the 2017 Acura NSX Supercar, Clement D’Souza has been featured in the latest episode of “What Makes A Honda is Who Makes A Honda”. D’Souza is originally from India and has worked as a mechanical engineer for Honda of America Mfg., Inc., for more than 26 years. Over time he has had a number of amazing opportunities with the company, including his most recent venture as the project leader of the new NSX, the only supercar built in America.
D’Souza says that he joined Honda after coming to the U.S. as a result of his love for motorcycles and his desire to learn more about the manufacturing process of bikes and cars. When he was presented with the chance to be project leader for the NSX, he jumped at it because it meant being able to be involved in the development of a whole new vehicle that would be the first of its kind. D’Souza feels that one of the most important components to his overall success in work and life is teamwork, a mentality that applies to work at Honda as well as his former passion for playing field hockey.
D’Souza emphasizes teamwork as crucial to the project’s success. “The number one thing for me is the teamwork, relying on your teammates and the team around you, working off the same rhythm and the same passion to a common goal,” he said.

Honda fans and shoe enthusiasts alike are sure to love the new limited edition HT3 Driving Shoe that is now available through JackThreads. This new shoe was created through a collaborative effort between JackThreads, Thrillist, and Honda to design a new shoe inspired by the design of the 2016 Honda Civic. The new HT3 Driving Shoe has been designed to reflect the three core aspects of Honda Design.
The concept for the HT3 Driving Shoe was originally thought up by a team at Thrillist who then reached out to JackThreads to fully bring the concept to life. JackThreads then worked with Jarad Hall from Honda R&D America to help ensure that this new shoe would fully reflect the overall design of the 2016 Civic. The show has been developed using premium materials such as a quilted leather pattern on the insole and heel counter, sleek suede with metallic hints, a neoprene vamp that fits over the top of the driver’s foot, a suede shroud that fastens in place to cover the leaves, and articulated nodes that wrap around the ankles for additional support.
“Collaborating with JackThreads and Thrillist to develop an exclusive shoe for people who love driving and love the sporty new Honda Civic has been a great experience,” said Jarad Hall, Civic Senior Exterior Designer, Honda R&D Americas. “Our all-new Civic lineup is a real game changer in its segment when it comes to styling and fun to drive spirit, and we look forward to stepping into the footwear world with a premium limited edition shoe that showcases just how remarkable the Civic is, inside and out.”
