For the second time, a Honda model has been presented with the North American Car of the Year Award. The first honor came ten years ago when the Ridgeline won in 2006, and now the 2016 Honda Civic is the recipient of this prestigious award. The recipient of this award is decided each year by a group of 53 international automotive journalists from the United States and Canada. The group chooses the winner bases on a variety of factors such as driver satisfaction, innovation, value, design, handling, and safety performance.
“The all-new Civic was developed and is built in North America, making this North American Car of the Year win even sweeter,” said Jeff Conrad, Honda Division senior vice president and general manager. “Civic is a cornerstone of the Honda lineup, and we’re delighted that the automotive press has recognized the new levels of styling, performance, advanced technology, safety and value that characterize the new Civic.”
The 2016 Honda Civic has been completely redesigned with a new look on both the outside and the inside. This model is also the first compact car in the world to be equipped with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. Additional technologies found in this model include Honda Sensing™ safety and driver-assistive technologies and Honda turbo engine technology.

Honda Improves Red Riders Rewards Program for 2016
Honda has announced that they are adding a number of new incentives to their Red Riders Rewards Program for 2016. These changes and improvements will allow for close to $7 million in savings to be available to Honda racers over the next year. This plan has been designed for Honda racers in all fields including supercross, motocross, off-road, road racing, dirt track, trails, and ATV.
Throughout this next season, racers will have the opportunity to earn payouts through the program in over 1,300 different events. Honda has even made it easier for participants to collect their payouts through a PayPal payment process. Each participant simply has to link their PayPal account and the payment will be automatically processed once their results are posted to the XTRM Performance Network by a race promoter.
“We’re very excited that Honda’s Red Riders Rewards program is even bigger and better for this year,” said Mike Snyder, Senior Manager of Powersports Marketing at American Honda. “We have been working hard to improve our program to better serve privateer pros and amateurs, across all racing organizations. Starting with this weekend’s AMA Supercross opener in Anaheim, racers can begin earning awards, and there are many, many other opportunities throughout the year, from Hangtown to Elkhart Lake. Also, the addition of PayPal means that redeeming awards is more convenient and quicker than ever.”
Additional Highlights For 2016:
- MotoAmerica: Continued $10K for Superbike wins, all classes paid down to 10th place both days.
- Arenacross: Increased payouts in all classes.
- Amateur Motocross: Increased payouts, as well as expanded trackside support at Loretta Lynn’s and other select events.
- AMA Motocross: Increased payouts, paying per moto down to 40th place.
- AMA Supercross: Increased payouts focused on privateer positions.

Recently, the 2016 Honda CR-V earned a 5-Star rating in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program. The 5-Star rating is the highest rating that a car can receive, and on top of that, the 2016 CR-V was also given a TOP SAFETY PICK+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
“Consumers have made the CR-V America’s best-selling SUV for good reason, and this top government safety rating just adds one more appealing and class-leading attribute,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division. “Honda is committed to offering vehicles that deliver advanced safety, fun-to-drive performance and connectivity, with top fuel economy ratings. CR-V is that kind of vehicle.”
The 2016 CR-V features some of the newest technology available. It uses Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering body, a rearview camera, forward collision warnings and lane departure warnings, to keep passengers as safe as can be. It was also the first Honda vehicle to use Honda Sensing, a new feature that helps avoid accidents, and minimize damage if an accident occurs. With an even longer list of additional features, the 2016 CR-V rightfully earned its award.
