Honda’s environmental activities in North America for the past year have been detailed in a new report, the 2016 North American Environmental Report (NAER). In an effort to help reduce emissions and promote better business practices for the environment, Honda has pledged its continued support of the goal to halve total CO2 emissions from its products and operations globally by 2050. "From an environmental perspective, we are aggressively pursuing innovations that will help reduce CO2 emissions, which is society's most pressing environmental challenge," said Toshiaki Mikoshiba, president & CEO of Honda North America, Inc. "We are pursuing environmental innovation across all aspects of our business with a strong focus on improving efficiency at every stage of the product life cycle.” The 51-page report also features Honda’s stance on public policies as they pertain to energy usage and development of alternate-fuel vehicles and technologies. Some of the highlights of the report include a continued expansion of the reduction of the use of hazardous materials, increased its support of CNG-fueled trucks used on local transportation routes, a decrease of 10% in CO2 emissions in the production of automobiles, and a decrease in the waste sent to landfills from its 12 U.S. parts warehousing and distribution centers by 20 percent last year. The Honda Civic has always been an iconic vehicle in the United States, known for its practicality and efficiency, but the 10th-generation is offering much more and turning even more heads. The 2017 Honda Ridgeline is not expected to arrive at dealerships until sometime this summer, but that hasn’t stopped people from talking about it! Recently, the Environmental Protection Agency has released the official fuel-efficiency estimates for the redesigned midsize pickup. The new Ridgeline was given an EPA estimated mpg of 19 city/26 highway/22 combined, which is an increase of 5 mpg from the last generation, allowing the Honda to be competitive against other trucks in the midsize segment. To achieve this estimate, the 2017 Honda Ridgeline features Front-Wheel Drive and a 3.5 Liter V6 Engine. Opting for the Four-Wheel Drive package only results in a slight drop of 18/25/21 mpg. Just this week, Honda released the first episode of their new Social Media Series called “Serial One”. This new series will be chronicling the journey of a the restoration of the very first Honda N600 by long-time N600 mechanic Tim Mings. Mings has been restoring vehicles for most of his life with around 1,000 of those vehicle being N5600 models. He became the lucky owner of the very first N600 by chance when he bought the vehicle sight unseen only to uncover the serial number a few years later and discover its significance. Now, he is proud to be responsible for the restoration of this historic model knowing that it will then be taken to the Honda Museum to be put on display for Honda enthusiasts to view and enjoy for years to come. "We're so proud to bring the story of Honda's roots in the U.S. to life through the restoration of this vehicle," said Alicia Jones, Honda social media manager. "Finding Serial One, the very first Honda N600 test vehicle in America, and documenting the meticulous process of bringing it back to life really embodies the Honda spirit. With the 2016 Honda Civic Coupe set to be released next week we thought it would be fun to take a look back at what was offered in this model back when it was first released back in 1993. To do so, we have shared a Retro Review that MotorWeek released that features the 1993 Honda Civic Coupe back when it was fresh off the assembly line. By 1993 the Honda Civic had already made quite a name for itself in the automotive market for offering a full range of options and reliability that American car buyers were looking for at that time. When the Civic Coupe was released it took all of the features that everyone already loved about the Civic and added a new sense of style and flare with its two-door design. In fact, John Davis called this model “The smartest looking small Honda ever”. During the test drive MotorWeek commented on the impressive performance capabilities, smooth highway handling, impressive fuel economy rating, and interior noise level that was the quieter than any other Civic model at that time. It has been 19 years since the release of the 1997 Honda CR-V and MotorWeek has decided to feature this old school SUV in one of their recent Retro Reviews. This model stood out at the time for its impressive fuel economy rating and smooth ride and handling which were not always seen two decades ago when the SUV segment first started to really emerge in the automotive industry. Overall, MotorWeek seemed to be pleased by everything that this vehicle had to offer in terms of both design and power. The popular “ What Makes a Honda is Who Makes a Honda” series has returned once again with the release of a new segment. Many Honda enthusiasts are sure to remember this series from last year as the brand released a new episode each month that featured one of the many team members that play an important role in the Honda corporation. This newly released video features two product planners Tomo Yokoi, senior product planner for the next generation Acura NSX and James Jenkins, manager of Product Planning for Honda light trucks. This new segment focuses on them as individuals and the importance of their positions and how they work to help keep the company moving forward. "When I look at the final product, I see a huge team effort, all focused on bringing the best possible experience to our customers," said Yokoi, who also was the planner for the 2015 Acura TLX luxury performance sedan. Said Jenkins: "I'm working on family-oriented products, with safety as the number one focus, but our goal is still to make driving fun.
