Honda has teamed up with a slightly unexpected partner for their newest project. That partner is DreamWorks Animation and the project is augmented and virtual reality content with a solutions test bed for the in-vehicle experience. Proof of concept will be demonstrated at this weekend’s Consumer Electronics Show. Guests will be able to test out the new technology and experience the Honda Dream Drive prototype at the Honda booth. "Entertainment in the car is rapidly changing as consumers rely more and more on personal devices and Honda sees new opportunities to create unique experiences for our customers," said John Moon, Developer Relations Lead at Honda Developer Studio. "The collaboration with DreamWorks enables Honda to enhance the in-vehicle experience through new ways of delivering information and entertainment." The new software development kit will “fuse live telematics data to feed in-vehicle entertainment, education and information applications that are contextually synchronized with the motion of the vehicle in real-time” giving users a very unique experience. "We see the cabin of an automobile as an untapped platform for delivering entertaining and educational experiences to consumers," said DreamWorks Animation's Chief Animation Technology Officer Jeff Wike. "Working with Honda has enabled us to bring our collective talent together to explore and identify opportunities in adapting and creating new forms of consumer engagement." Ohio Honda Plant New Home For CR-V
Last week, the East Liberty Auto Plant (ELP) in East Liberty, Ohio began production on the all-new 2017 Honda CR-V. This SUV, which will go on sale this winter, has been redesigned for its fifth iteration and is the “best-selling SUV in America over the past 20 years”. "Our Ohio team did an incredible job as the lead plant for the global launch of this new Honda CR-V and we look forward to sharing this world-class 2017 CR-V with our customers in the U.S., North America and around the world." said Tim Myers, plant manager at the East Liberty Auto Plant. "With a first-ever available turbocharged engine that is also built right here in Ohio we believe the CR-V will continue to set the standard for compact SUVs." This is the first time a Honda plant in the U.S. has led the mass production efforts for a global model. Not only that but the East Liberty Auto Plant also developed the technologies and processes that will form the manufacturing base for CR-V production at ten Honda plants globally. The 2.8 million square foot plant employs 2,350 associates and has the ability to manufacture 240,000 passenger cars and light trucks every year. It’s Civicpalooza At SEMA
It’s that time of year again! SEMA is here and Honda has pulled out all the stops when it comes to their concepts and prototypes. We’re most excited about the radical new Civic Type R prototype. The Type R gives us a hint of what’s to come with the styling of the next-generation Civic 10th generation Civic lineup that will launch next year. Joining the Type R are a handful of custom-built and accessorized Civics. From the new hatchback to genuine accessories and a Rallycross race car, SEMA is the place to be if you're a fan of the Civic. “Civicpalooza” will feature a GRC Competitive Race Car, a Racing Concept, SEGA Sonic Civic Sedan, aLL STaR Performance concept, and MAD Industries Civic Coupe concept alongside the Type R. Finally, Honda will show the Civic Body-In-White. This concept was designed to allow amateur and pro race teams the ability to build new race cars without having to tear apart a production car. This makes it easier to go racing with the latest touring car chassis tech and much more affordable. The all-new 2017 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck will also make an appearance as will some special projects from Honda Powersports and Honda Performance Development. The video above shows the unveiling of this very special model but if you want to catch up on the journey that brought this car back to life, check out http://www.serialone.com/.
3D-Printed Car May Be In Our Future
Honda has typically been on the forefront of automobile innovation and their latest concept car is a testament to that. Honda has also historically kept their concept cars under wraps. So when the Honda 3D-Printed EV Concept vehicle was unveiled after the Paris Motor Show, people were shocked. Starting with a light but safe pipe-based skeleton, the concept car is built from 3D-printed panels and can be customized entirely by the owner. This is made possible by the Variable Design platform for micro EVs. Entry points can be made lower for the elderly or handicapped, it can grow to fit a family of three, or have a hatchback for easy loading and unloading for delivery purposes. While it’s still in its very early stages of research and development, the concept vehicle on display was a working prototype and the lucky few who were able to take a ride seemed to have great fun! @zshahan3. Naoki Segimoto: What Makes a Honda is Who Makes a Honda
Every month or so, we catch up with one of the faces behind Honda through their inspirational video series, “What Makes a Honda is Who Makes a Honda.” Honda, who is committed to the Power of Dreams, features employees who illustrate that commitment every day. The latest episode of “What Makes a Honda is Who Makes a Honda” features the Senior Program Director of Honda Silicon Valley Lab, Naoki “Nick” Segimoto. Segimoto, who leads the advanced information technology R&D team, studied automotive engineering in college at the University of Tokyo but had no plans to pursue a career in the automotive industry. He was much more interested in the development of the internet and technology, but always respected Honda as a company for the dedication to innovation. And in 2005, he blended his passion for technology and automobiles and joined the Honda team. Now, Segimoto works as a liaison between the technology and automotive industry, helping to build driver-assistance technology in Honda vehicles like Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™. "A lot of change is happening in the technology and automotive industries, and going forward it is more important now than ever for Honda to work with innovators of all types to remain competitive," said Sugimoto. Everyone is a Truck Lover Thanks To Honda Ridgeline
While the 2017 Honda Ridgeline is still pretty new to the truck market, it is quickly converting people who otherwise identify as “not really truck people.” One of these people is Peter Valdes-Dapena, the automotive writer at CNN. Dapena admitted that while he never pictured himself owning a truck, the 2017 Honda Ridgeline has changed his mind. The major different between the Ridgeline and its competitors is that the Ridgeline has the capability and utility of a truck, with the comfort, style, and convenience of a car or SUV. Its performance is smooth and responsive, while other trucks often wobble and shake on the road. It also offers unique storage options, like the lockable watertight trunk which is built into the truckbed, so you can secure your belongs and keep them protected. Dapena concludes, “The Ridgeline is a completely different, better-equipped and a more flexible, livable vehicle than a base-level . For people who might not ordinarily considering buying a truck, I think I have found your truck.” Check out the video above and then schedule a test drive at D’ELLA Honda of Glens Falls!
