Honda has teamed up with a slightly unexpected partner for their newest project. That partner is DreamWorks Animation and the project is augmented and virtual reality content with a solutions test bed for the in-vehicle experience. Proof of concept will be demonstrated at this weekend’s Consumer Electronics Show. Guests will be able to test out the new technology and experience the Honda Dream Drive prototype at the Honda booth. "Entertainment in the car is rapidly changing as consumers rely more and more on personal devices and Honda sees new opportunities to create unique experiences for our customers," said John Moon, Developer Relations Lead at Honda Developer Studio. "The collaboration with DreamWorks enables Honda to enhance the in-vehicle experience through new ways of delivering information and entertainment." The new software development kit will “fuse live telematics data to feed in-vehicle entertainment, education and information applications that are contextually synchronized with the motion of the vehicle in real-time” giving users a very unique experience. "We see the cabin of an automobile as an untapped platform for delivering entertaining and educational experiences to consumers," said DreamWorks Animation's Chief Animation Technology Officer Jeff Wike. Last week, the East Liberty Auto Plant (ELP) in East Liberty, Ohio began production on the all-new 2017 Honda CR-V. This SUV, which will go on sale this winter, has been redesigned for its fifth iteration and is the “best-selling SUV in America over the past 20 years”. "Our Ohio team did an incredible job as the lead plant for the global launch of this new Honda CR-V and we look forward to sharing this world-class 2017 CR-V with our customers in the U.S., North America and around the world." said Tim Myers, plant manager at the East Liberty Auto Plant. "With a first-ever available turbocharged engine that is also built right here in Ohio we believe the CR-V will continue to set the standard for compact SUVs." This is the first time a Honda plant in the U.S. has led the mass production efforts for a global model. Not only that but the East Liberty Auto Plant also developed the technologies and processes that will form the manufacturing base for CR-V production at ten Honda plants globally. The 2.8 million square foot plant employs 2,350 associates and has the ability to manufacture 240,000 passenger cars and light trucks every year. At the 2016 STEP Ahead Awards, which took place yesterday in Washington, D.C., Honda Team Member Jan Gansheimer was recognized for her efforts to help advance the work of women in the manufacturing industry.  All of the honorees at the event were recognized for their work in helping to create more awareness about the manufacturing industry as an advanced, high-tech industry in the U.S. while also promoting educational programs to strengthen training efforts in this industry. STEP stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Production and these annual awards have been designed to recognize women in the manufacturing industry who make an active effort to provide encouragement and support to other women interested in a career in this industry. Currently, around 47 percent of the labor force is made up of women, but only 27 of the manufacturing workforce is women, a fact that the women honored in the STEP awards are attempting to change. "I love the variety that manufacturing offers at Honda because it provides the opportunity to create, to solve problems and to work constantly to improve products for the customer," said Gansheimer, who was recently named Assistant Vice President of Human Resources for Honda North America, Inc. "I'm honored to be recognized for supporting an industry that has significantly impacted my life and is so important to the fabric of the country." Gansheimer has been with Honda since 1986 when she started out as a production associate in the Marysville Auto Plant. Over the years, her dedication and skill has helped her to advance into a number of different positions including staff engineer at the East Liberty Auto Plant, manager of the North American Support and Development group in the Purchasing Division, plant manager of the Marysville Motorcycle Plant, division manager of the Purchasing Division and her current position of AVP of plant operations for Honda of America Mfg., Inc. Mechanical engineer and project leader for the 2017 Acura NSX Supercar, Clement D’Souza has been featured in the latest episode of “What Makes A Honda is Who Makes A Honda”. D’Souza is originally from India and has worked as a mechanical engineer for Honda of America Mfg., Inc., for more than 26 years. Over time he has had a number of amazing opportunities with the company, including his most recent venture as the project leader of the new NSX, the only supercar built in America. D’Souza says that he joined Honda after coming to the U.S. as a result of his love for motorcycles and his desire to learn more about the manufacturing process of bikes and cars. When he was presented with the chance to be project leader for the NSX, he jumped at it because it meant being able to be involved in the development of a whole new vehicle that would be the first of its kind. D’Souza feels that one of the most important components to his overall success in work and life is teamwork, a mentality that applies to work at Honda as well as his former passion for playing field hockey. D'Souza emphasizes teamwork as crucial to the project's success. "The number one thing for me is the teamwork, relying on your teammates and the team around you, working off the same rhythm and the same passion to a common goal," he said. Honda fans and shoe enthusiasts alike are sure to love the new limited edition HT3 Driving Shoe that is now available through JackThreads. This new shoe was created through a collaborative effort between JackThreads, Thrillist, and Honda to design a new shoe inspired by the design of the 2016 Honda Civic. The all-new Honda Civic Hatchback Prototype will be making its first appearance at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, which will be taking place from March 3-13. Directly following that this model will then head to North America for its debut at the 2016 New York International Auto Show on March 22. This new prototype will show the world what they can expect from the 2017 Civic Hatchback when it is released later this year. This model will also be the third new model to launch in the Civic lineup this year with the previous two being the 2016 Civic Sedan and Coupe. The Hatchback will not be the last either as this model will be followed by the Civic Si and the Civic Type R. This model has been given an aggressive new look complete with sporty and striking body lines for this five-door edition that also comes complete with some impressive European hot hatch styling. This model will also be equipped with all of the latest safety and convenience features and it will be powered by Honda Turbo engine technology.

Five years ago when the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami took place, countless individuals were impacted when these two natural disasters tore apart the city leaving behind massive destruction. Following these disasters Japanese and U.S. governments formed the TOMODACHI ("friend") program as a way of creating a cultural bond between American and Japanese students, especially those who had been most directly impacted by the disasters. "The TOMODACHI Honda Cultural Exchange Initiative is an extension of our belief in The Power of Dreams," said Steve Morikawa, vice president, Corporate Relations & Social Responsibility for American Honda. "Not only will these students experience cultural exchange while they're here in the United States, but they will carry forward what they've learned back to Japan and throughout the rest of their lives." For the 2016 TOMODACHI Honda Cultural Exchange Program students from Japan traveled to Southern California during their winter break and through the New Year. They stayed with local families and attended the local High School as a way of learning about the everyday life of a typical American teenager and in turn, sharing their own traditions with American students. They also visited hospitals where they taught origami and calligraphy to children. The What Makes a Honda is Who Makes a Honda video series highlights Honda employees who exemplify Honda’s belief in the Power of Dreams. The latest installment follows two Honda Research & Development associates who are involved in the Walking Assist Project. Hideaki Takahashi and Kenton Williams have been collaborating to advance a Honda Robotics technology that will help people to walk during physical therapy. While both men come from very different cultures and backgrounds (Takahashi is a native of Japan, while Williams is a MIT graduate from Ohio), their passion over this project has brought them together. Williams remarked that their “shared desire to help people with disabilities transcends any difference.” Both Williams and Takahashi are striving to achieve Honda’s dream of offering the joy of mobility to more people.
