Celebrating the Unsung Heroes in Our Lives Sometimes the people who have had the biggest impact on your life aren’t the people you would expect. Sometimes they are the people you would have otherwise overlooked. For me, Fathers’ Day has always been a sore subject. My dad was never really in the picture, so a day that celebrated awesome fathers stung a bit. This year, however, I realized that while I may not have had my biological father in my life, there were several men who stepped up to be the father figures I needed. They helped to shape me into the person I am today without me even realizing that that’s what they were doing. Those 3 men who have been constants in my life are my grandfather, my uncle, and my high school math teacher. From my grandfather, I learned how to drive, change my tires, and the oil in my car. My uncle taught me the value of hard work and got me my first job at his shop working on cars. My math teacher taught me the value of learning, of respect, and how to be a leader. These three men made an effort to make me feel like I mattered and showed me that there were people out there that really cared about me. In addition to all being positive role models to me, they all share a common thread. They were all in one of the branches of the armed forces. They fought to keep our country safe and now, they’re fighting just as hard for me. Much like I almost overlooked the impact these amazing men had on my life, many service men and women of our armed forces aren’t given nearly enough recognition for all that they do for our country. Driving with My Daredevil Mother My mother is not what most would call a cautious driver. Don’t get me wrong, she is an excellent driver, but I sometimes suspect she thinks that she is a Formula 1 driver. To be excruciatingly clear, she is most certainly not, but the way she makes sharp turns may leave you wondering if she was in a past life. My earliest memory is of my mother driving my younger brother and me to school in our SUPER fly Honda CR-V circa 1996. She would make turns in that car on two wheels, and I promise you, even at age 5 I knew that such turns were somewhat risky maneuvers. My mother, on the other hand, seemed completely unphased by her vehicle defying all known laws of physics and gravity. Oddly enough, when I was first learning to drive, my mother always put a strong emphasis on maintaining control over the vehicle. In retrospect, it seems ludicrous when you consider the stunts she pulled, but in the long run proved helpful to me. In an effort to teach me how to keep control of my vehicle in even the toughest situations, she would take me out to the high school parking lot in the middle of a blizzard or a monsoon and have me floor it, then immediately and forcefully break in an effort to teach me how to deal with a vehicle that has lost control. At the time I would be praying to every deity I knew and frantically screaming that we were going to die, but my mother, every the calming force would verbally guide me through the steps to get out of those situations. I can’t even begin to say how glad I am that she went over those steps with me until I was bringing my car out of a spin out in my sleep, because one day over the summer on my way home from work, my car hydroplaned in the rain as I was making a slightly sharper turn than anticipated. By that point, righting my ever faithful 2011 Honda Accord, which I still have to this day, was basically second nature thanks to the muscle memory my mother helped to develop. I guess my point is, while my mother’s methods were perhaps a bit more extreme than a sane person’s might be, my mother took that time to reinforce in me the correct and safe way to handle potentially unsafe situations. (Minus the turning on two wheels, seriously, never do that if you can help it.) Take the time to learn how your vehicle handles both snow and heavy rain in controlled environments so that you can plan accordingly. It could save your life down the road. Below I have listed some tips to help you if you find yourself spinning out of control due to slick weather. DO NOT BREAK. That could cause your car to spin out even more Turn your wheel in the opposite direction the front of your car is turning. So if the front of your car starts spinning to the left, turn your wheel to the right. This will help to straighten out your vehicle. Stay as calm as possible and remember not to turn your wheel too much. Turn the wheel in small increments until your vehicle is driving straight again. Get a Car That Can Handle the Road

I Lost My Dignity Somewhere In the Backseat: Reorganizing My Life Tidiness is decidedly not one of my strengths, but over the years I have gotten better at keeping the clutter minimal. However, despite my best efforts to keep it clean, on occasion, my car gets a little “out of hand”. Ok, maybe a lot out of hand, but I’m working on it! The point is, even though the current state of my car is best described as “there appears to have been a struggle”, getting my car back to its former splendor is something I can do, and you can too. Now, if your car is anywhere near the state mine is in, you’ll briefly consider taking a blowtorch to the whole thing and hope that something survives. DO NOT DO THAT. There might be approximately 5 billion tons of garbage back there, but laying waste to your precious car and having to deal with piles of ash and regret are not worth it. The first step is to sort through the clothes, garbage, and what little bits of dignity you can find back there and make piles of things to “save” and “trash”. But, let’s not fool ourselves, at this point there is no salvageable dignity to be found. Now that your car is trash free and doesn’t let off a distinctly 2016 level terrible vibe, there is a glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel. You can now start to vacuum up the dirt and inevitable shame that has embedded itself into the deepest parts of your carpet. You may need more than one pass with the vacuum, that shame is really clinging. For your finishing touches, you can use a slightly damp cloth and wipe down your dashboard and gently clean out the vents. You don’t want to use a sopping wet cloth as too much water can do more harm than help, and let’s be real, you won’t need much excess water because at this point tears of joy are streaming down your face because you’ve done it. Your car is clean. It is now safe for friends and family to enter your car without having to wear a hazard suit and a distinctly disappointed expression. But none of that matters now, because you conquered your car, and now you can return to your natural habitat, known as the couch, with Netflix and a taco. View Our Inventory

So far, the Honda Division has been on a record-setting pace this year with new monthly sales records set for both January and February. Just last month, the brand reported sales of 110,822 units which is 4.3 percent higher than the same month last year. "The new CR-V is exceeding our own expectations with production and deliveries now fully up to speed," said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division. "It's clearly hitting a sweet spot in the market and complemented by HR-V at the entry level." The CR-V topped Honda sales for February after achieving a record monthly total of 31,898 units which is a 26.3 percent increase. A new February record was also achieved by the HR-V with sales up 28.6 percent to reach 6,354 units. Two additional best-sellers for February were the Civic and Accord with 27,039 and 23,455 units sold respectively.
