Honda’s Week of Service

This June, Honda celebrated its first annual Honda Week of Service by helping families and communities across the country. Over 16,000 volunteers participated in a number of outreach programs and community service all over North America. From June 10th to the 19th, volunteers in Canada, Mexico, and 41 states participated in 425 activities, and the results were astounding. Because of the amazing volunteers, 3,000 families were fed, 60,000 canned goods and meals were provided, 2,500 children were given school supplies, 200 animals were adopted, 75 homes were painted, 350 bags of trash were collected, 600 pints of blood were drawn, and donations reached $75,000 dollars! "We are so thankful to our associates and business partners who took time out to help improve the lives of people in the communities where we live and work," said Executive Vice President Rick Schostek, Honda North America, Inc. "This week was an example of what can happen when a team of people come together to help their neighbors." Take a look at the video below. We hope it will inspire you to get involved and give back in your community! "Team Honda Week of Service Lends a Helping Hand Across North America." Honda Newsroom. Honda, 02 Aug. 2016. Eagle Rock School & Professional Development Center

Back in 1991, Honda opened the Eagle Rock School as part of the brand’s dedication to promoting corporate social responsibility. This unique school is a year-round, residential, full-scholarship high school that is located on a 640-acre campus on a mountainside in Estes Park, Colorado. This school and Professional Development Center was originally built in order to offer students an alternative to traditional classroom teaching in order to help them succeed academically. The school helps to educate the students while the Professional Development Center works with teachers and administrators from all over the U.S. to help them develop a unique and engaging experiences for their own school programs. "Through the strength of our on-campus community, we're able to connect with each of our students in unique and meaningful ways —  and help students re-engage in their own education," said Jeff Liddle, head of school, Eagle Rock School & Professional Development Center. "Our sole purpose for existing — re-engaging youth in their own education — drives us toward a new vision for schooling where all students are productively engaged in their own education while simultaneously making a positive difference in the world." Recently, Honda released a new video series that highlights the efforts of this program. We have both videos available for you below. Engaging Youth On Campus: Making High School Impactful:

Honda Sponsors Program To Increase Teen Financial Literacy

When entering adulthood, many teens lack the skills that make them financially literate. The American Honda Finance Corporation is making the push to change that by sponsoring the Junior Achievement USA® (JA) Personal Finance Program. This program looks to develop financially literate skills in around half a million teens over the course of the next four years. JA Personal Finance is focused on helping high school students improve their understanding of financial concepts like investing, budgeting, and saving, as well as properly using credit. Funding will go towards incorporating both digital technologies as well as in-class learning with JA volunteers, to create an experience that will help teens learn in an enjoyable way. Owning a vehicle involves many financial responsibilities and the campaign looks to ensure that teens fully understand these responsibilities. A variety of topics such as paying for insurance, options for financing, and routine maintenance, will all be covered to help teens make better decisions when it comes to future financing opportunities. "We support Junior Achievement USA because their core values align very well with our own core values as a corporation—to enrich the social, economic and educational well-being of communities and society," said David W. Paul, senior vice president, AHFC. "Buying a car is one of the first major financial decisions most of us make. It is important that we educate the next generation to ensure that they are ready for the responsibilities of financing a car as well as establishing a firm financial foundation to help them succeed in life."
